What are psychic senses? How do they relate to our physical senses?
How do they help us? How do we tune into them?
Thanks to our senses, we are able to deeply experience the physical plane of reality.
To sense is the ability to receive external stimuli with the help of organs and their receptors. Each of us naturally lean into different sensitivities. How wonderful it is how we innately perceive and receive information slightly differently. All of our senses, both physical and subtle, function partly through reception and reaction to some form of energy. Inviting awareness to these subtle senses is the ability to recognize the stimuli and feelings flowing from your body. The subtle senses receive energy emitted by all things, people, animals, places, symbols, and objects.
Again, each of us has such abilities and can easily practice them, e.g., through selective concentration. They will also begin to appear naturally along with your level of spiritual development. Just start using them consciously.
If you feel called, self-reflect on your own sensitivities as you read the basic senses below. We experience senses through a personal belief system. A belief system is the set of lenses through which you see life. If you studied with a particular teacher, read a certain book, or practiced a specific religion, those experiences influence you to think a certain way. Senses are intimate perceptions based on the individual’s life experience. Two individuals who receive the same information, perceive it completely differently, yet will still translate the same ultimate message.
The Interconnectedness of Physical and Psychic Senses:
1. Vision –The Eye, waves of brilliant light
*Clairvoyance: Subjective and Objective – Both produce an abundance of psychic information. Subjective gives you information as images on your mind's screen. This tends to be more common. Objective gives information as images out in space, a distance from you, and not on your mind's screen. Psychically seeing without the use of your physical eyes, however, it seems like you see with your physical eyes. Objective mimics physical sight more so than subjective.
2. Hearing – The Ear, receives acoustic waves –an auditory experience
*Clairaudience: Subjective and Objective – This “clair” or sense exclusively hears ambient sounds and receives information from other dimensions. In contrast, the other clairs/senses perceive objects, people, animals, and plant life in this dimension.
Subjective gives information through sounds, music, or words you hear within your head without the aid of your physical ears. A more common experience. Objective gives information through sounds, music, or words that seem to come from out in space. Physically hearing without the use of the physical ears – however, it seems as if you use your physical ears as objective clairaudience mimics physical hearing.
*When hearing with the psychic sense, you must be willing to hear creative or unusual answers, rather than what you may have expected.
3. Taste –The Mouth and Tongue, which have receptors (taste buds) that register and detect
*Clairgustance: clear tasting, gives information through taste that does not originate from physical surroundings. This sense resembles a memory or a knowing of a smell.
4. Smell – The Nose, that registers odorants
*Clairscent: clear smelling, gives information through fragrance or odor that does not originate from physical surroundings. This sense resembles a memory or a knowing of smell.
5. Touch –The Receptors in the skin provides information about the shape and texture
*Clairsentience: clear feeling, gives information through feeling or sensing energy. This is a bridge between you and the universe. We feel energy, the essence of one, before words are ever spoken or before a touch is offered.
How will your reality change when you concentrate and welcome in psychic senses to your “ordinary” senses? How will this intention of concentration and focus zoom in on what's been in and around you all this time?
Here's a small practice to help lead you to the depths of YOUR superpower senses:
For this, we will call upon the elements to hold us ever so gently during our exploration.
If you can, comfortably situate yourself outside, close your eyes and take the deepest breath. Slow deep breaths, feeling your chest cavity expand, let your buddha belly relax fully, and just breathe. Feeling, smelling, tasting, even hearing the Air. Adjust your posture as needed and then fall into a natural breathing rhythm. Doing this for a few moments. Many senses may demand your attention, say caused by the wind blowing. Hearing sounds of wind chimes, feeling your hair flowing, smelling a far-off scent, an awareness of how the trees are responding, etc...Thank those senses for being present and for heightening your awareness.
Now, turn your focus inward. Wherever that inward direction takes you, wherever in your body, just trust that the direction of focus is true and follow it. Is it to an organ such as the heart, or your knee(s), solar plexus, or even your third eye... just trusting the innate flow of energy that has led you to that focal point. Once your focus is dialed in, ask the air - the element - to nurture and gently breeze through the area in your body. Asking the element Air to cleanse, heal, protect or awaken the focal point within your body. Take an intentional breath and sense the connection between the two, the body and element. Sense the shared energy. What emotions come forward for you here? What physical sensations are present? What messages from your higher-self and/or your guides did you receive?
Sit here and continue to explore for as long as you desire. Connecting to the elements, to Mother Earth. All while experiencing the interconnectedness of all things. Who you are within this realization of self, and how supported you are by the subtle miracles in which we interact with daily and mostly, unknowingly.
Call in the other elements while next to a fire or flame, in the bath, body of water, or in the rain, and rested upon Mother Earth with bare feet or hands touching soil, plant life, and rocks. A simple, powerful, intention of connecting. Concentrating on connecting to the elements as a way to begin feeling your senses may be a profound experience. Build your awareness of your innate psychic sense in a trusting and compassionate relationship, like Mother Earth. In time, your senses will heighten and you'll find that your sensitivities offer far more information and direction than ever imagined.
Always, always, end your practice with gratitude.
My high love to you-
