I was invited by the University of MD Medical Center, to participate in a study collecting data on the mechanisms that cause psychosis. This study is being funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and Dr. Gold is the lead in this effort. The study includes three groups: psychic/mediums, schizophrenia and multiple personality disorders, and individuals who don’t receive auditory messages. The science community had a real lack of information in this field. Dr. Gold and his team are currently gathering more in-depth information on behavior, brain function, etc. between the three groups. There was a time when receiving auditory messages(clairvoyance), was only prescribed as severe mental illness. This paradigm is being challenged because these experiences were happening far more than realized and the people having these experiences were doing just fine and were in control. So this opened the science community to wanting to further understand the contrasts between the groups.
During the EEG brain scan, participants perform different kinds of tasks involving decision making and auditory processing. There’s also a scan that measures different neurochemicals in the brain. Interesting results show how schizophrenia patients fail to notice a particular signal in the regularities during the auditory test. Psychic/Mediums who are clairaudient show to be super sensitive to the auditory differences. Much more so than individuals who don’t experience receiving messages. Mediums have shown to receive a louder response and are able to detect the evidence more clearly.
MRI testing tracks iron in the red blood cells and how it is moving through the brain. They are able to track activity in different parts of brain as the brain is busy doing tasks. Really trying to study the coordinated activity of a whole set of neural systems.
Having the opportunity to be a part of this study has been awesome. Seeing the science community work with the metaphysical community is really exciting. This acknowledges people like myself, intuitives and mediums, rather disregarding them as having “severe mental illness.” There’s promise in better supporting the greater community. More to come!
